Switching Off

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For the last 12 days I’ve been switched off…

I’ve been on holiday in Spain and switched off from business and social media, spending time focusing on my family instead.

That’s the thing about focus. You can only truly be focused on one thing at a time.

Some people say that as an entrepreneur you must always be working on your business, always be hustling. I disagree.

Finding Balance

I believe that true success is about serenity… peace of mind. That means having life in balance, not being a hero in one area and simultaneously being zero in another.

For me, family time means family time. Just as I have to be present in my businesses, I also have to be present for my wife and children.

Distraction can lead to disaster. Success needs focus, as in focusing on being present in each moment.

Focus

There is always two things you can do in life, isn’t there?

You can focus on what you do have, or what you don’t. When the rain stops you focus on the fact that a drought may be coming and you need rain. When it starts raining we can focus on the fact that the sun’s not shining anymore and that you want the sun shine back.

Alternatively you can appreciate what you have.

You can appreciate the rain when it comes and the fact that it means you don’t have a drought. The fact that the plants will grow, and the fact that there will be food, and the fact that there will be flowers, and natural beauty.

You can appreciate the sunshine and the opportunity o sit outside and have a BBQ.

You get to choose what you focus on. The positive or the negative.

So which one did you pick?

Clarity

With focus comes clarity. When you give one thing you attention you see details that, whilst always present, are often overlooked or missed if you are distracted.

You may also gain clarity on the things you’ve been switched off from and return to them with a free vision.
